ABOUT JILL'S PLACE
When you first enter Jill’s Place restaurant, you can’t help but notice the neon sign reading “The Butcher’s Daughter.” my father 'Jerry' opened his retail butcher shop ‘Shalhoob Meat Company’ at this same location in 1973. The meat company was a retail butcher shop that soon started selling wholesale to restaurants and quickly out grew the Santa Barbara Street location. When Papa Jerry made the decision to re-locate to a larger building, the butcher shop was vacant and it was time for me to take what I learned and open my own Shalhoob family business. Growing up working for my dad ‘The Butcher’, I learned food recipes, meat cutting techniques, and how to use a BBQ grill that fueled my own passion for good food, shared with good people.
I’ve been here ever since!
I started as Shalhoob Deli & Catering in 1987, ‘naming it after my dads business. Serving deli-style lunches and off-site catering, which specialized in corporate picnics, weddings, and community events, serving quality-grilled meats.
Our location, two blocks off of state street, basically the only retail business for blocks became a popular lunch spot for local businesses, making long time customers and friends serving the downtown community. After being in business for 15 years I decided to expand into a full-service restaurant, remodeling the original butcher shop space, upgrading the kitchen, and creating a dining room. Continuing with the same great old-school lunch menu, adding a sit down full bar and dinner menu. The restaurant was a great success thanks to those long time customers and word-of-mouth. Those same locals began referring to their favorite spot as “Jill’s” and soon after we officially became “Jill’s Place”.
I take pride in the day-to-day operation of my business; managing my kitchen, front of the house staff, personally cutting steaks and overseeing our family recipes.
Jill’s Place success is built on our continued dedication to consistency, quality, and fun!
I am proud to celebrate 30 great years serving the Santa Barbara community.
'The Butcher’s Daughter' looks forward to seeing you at Jill’s Place again soon.
